Essential oils have been prized by humanity for thousands of years; the wise men even gifted baby Jesus with frankincense and myrrh. You may already love essential oils, and use them in various ways in your daily life, but have your tried them to support your healthy hair?

Essential Oil Basics for Your Hair

Healthy living, following a good hair care routine, and having a fabulous hair stylist, all are key to great hair. But, what else could add to maintaining that beautiful head of hair? Chances are, you have already purchased a hair care product that has been scented or infused with essential oils, since the benefits of oils are widely recognized. By finding or making your own products, you can pinpoint your hair’s needs, from shampoos, conditioners, styling products and even hair perfumes!

One simple way essential oils can be incorporated and it’s totally DIY, is by simply adding a few drops to a gentle scalp massage. If you are concerned with the strength of the oil, adding a few drops to a your carrier oil of choice, like coconut, jojoba, avocado or almond oil. These carrier oils can be found at local health or grocery stores. A third way is to add few drops of your choice essential oil may also be added as you shampoo; simply place a few drops in your hand along with your shampoo. Many of the oils can be used, with little time involved, by incorporating them into your daily beauty regime. Oils can be chosen based on aromatic preference, the beneficial qualities they offer your hair, or even better, both!

Oily hair: Some essential oils for balancing oily hair are basil, cypress, thyme, lemon, bergamot, tea tree, and rosemary.

Hair Growth: Essential oils for hair growth are thyme, lavender,

rosemary, ylang ylang, cedarwood, clary sage,

wintergreen, ginger, lemon and grapefruit essential oils.

According to the article by Dr. Axe, entitled, Rosemary Oil Uses and Benefits

one of the top 4 benefits of Rosemary oil is it’s ability to support hair health.

The article goes on to say, “When applied over the scalp, rosemary essential

oil helps stimulate hair growth. Many people also claim that it can prevent

baldness, slows graying, and can be used to treat dandruff and dry scalp.”

Want to thicken your hair, try putting 5 drops of rosemary oil on scalp

and massage in after showers, as a part of your hair care routine.
