Now that the Holiday Season is over, it is time to start planning for our next holiday (I know you are thinking it...already??...yes already). On Valentine's Day, nearly half of all Americans dine out, and it is expected to ring in (pun definitely intended) almost six million engagements this year.

So whether you are newly in love, or are going out for your fiftieth Valentine's Day dinner, we all want to look and feel our prettiest.

And what makes us feel the best inside and out? A good facial. At home. We have researched the most common skin conditions and compiled four of the best DIY facial masks for your skin type to start doing once a week until Valentine's Day arrives to get the best skin possible for your big date night (or night in).

  1. Anti-Aging Mask

1 Tablespoon lemon juice

1 Tablespoon plain yogurt

Leave on for 20-30 minutes while laying down. Rinse with warm water and finish off with your favorite moisturizer.

This one is for absolutely anyone who has any kind of wrinkle or loose skin. The lemon tightens your pores and gives you the appearance of lifted, rejuvenated skin, and the yogurt restores moisture and balances all of the bacteria going on in your skin.

2. Oil Removing Mask

1 Tablespoon honey

1 Egg yolk

Oatmeal (enough to create a thick paste)

Apply and leave on for 15 minutes, rinse with warm water and apply an oil-free moisturizer.

This oatmeal mask is good for your skin in more than one way. The oatmeal not only has 18 amino acids that rebuild your tissue and promote healing, but it calms any  redness and inflammation in the skin. The egg yolk removes any oil out of your pores, and the honey is a natural moisturizer that won't make your skin oily, and antibacterial properties that prevent blemishes.oatmeal.honey

3. Acne-Clearing Mask

1 Egg white

1 Teaspoon lemon juice

1/2 teaspoon honey

Apply and leave on for 10-15 minutes, rinse with cool water and apply a toner, then your favorite moisturizer.

This mask doesn't just feel good, but is extremely beneficial to acne-prone skin. The antimicrobial and antibacterial properties in the lemon heal your acne and really, your skin in general, all while lightening any scars or dark spots you  may have. Egg whites and honey are our holy grail for skin. If you are not aware of how crucial it is to become friends with egg whites and honey, here are your reasons..

Egg whites:

  • Protein- for tissue repair and growth, promotes strong skin
  • Potassium- hydrates and moisturizes, and preserves moisture in skin cells
  • Riboflavin- eliminates toxic and cell damaging free radicals that create wrinkles
  • Magnesium- for youthful, radiant skin. Slows down the aging process of the skin

Honey:

  • Naturally antibacterial, so it is great for acne treatment and prevention
  • Full of antioxidants, so it is great for slowing down the aging process in the skin
  • Extremely soothing and moisturizing

4. Hydrating Mask

1 Egg white

1/4 Ripe avocado

1/2 Teaspoon honey

Mash the avocado until it forms a smooth paste, and then mix the egg white and honey into it. Leave on for 15 minutes, then rinse with warm water. Finish your newly hydrated skin off with a small amount of olive oil, which is an excellent natural moisturizer.

The benefits to this mask are endless, too, due to all the love these ingredients give to us. The egg whites and honey are both Mother Nature's gift to us for hydrating and moisturizing our skin, and the avocado has a high oleic acid (monounsaturated fatty acid) content. That means it maintains the moisture in your skin making it soft and moisturized. Oleic acid is also involved in regenerating damaged skin cells while reducing redness and irritation.

If you do these facials just once a week until Valentine's Day, your skin will be thanking you, and all you will have to worry about is what outfit you will be rocking.
